Musical Director

James Giddens, the Musical Director of the Great Western Male Choir, has had a lifelong involvement with music performance both professionally and originally in an amateur capacity. He first studied pianoforte and when still a youngster, became a church organist, which naturally brought him in contact with choirs. Early in his career he became a member of the Hurlstone Choral Society (which is now the Sydney Philharmonia) and had the privilege of singing under notable conductors such as Otto Klemperer and Sir Eugene Goossens.

Choirs in particular, both church and secular, have been a constant interest and occupation for him both in Sydney and country NSW. He has taught singing at both the Dubbo and Bathurst Conservatoriums of Music and still teaches in the Blue Mountains where he continues to direct two choral groups as well as singing himself with the Bathurst Cathedral Choir.

James music studies with the University of New England gained him a Bachelor Degree and he is also an associate of Trinity College London. His management skills are recognised by the Australian Institute of Management where he holds an Associate Fellowship award.
